The instrument’s lightweight and durable aluminum housing not only provides a strong grip feeling but also protects valuable electronic devices from damage and the effects of electromagnetic interference.
The SVAN 979 has a very large dynamic measurement range – more than 110dB. The high-quality GRAS 40AE microphone allows measurements in the frequency range starting from 3 Hz. The measurement path has been designed to allow the use of other microphones if you want to measure very low frequencies or very high noise levels. The microphone preamplifier has also been reinforced with a collar to protect against mechanical damage.
One of the great features of the SVAN 979 is that if you remove the microphone preamplifier then you can use the instrument for vibration measurements – just connect a cable and a vibration sensor.
The SVAN 979 has a wide variety of hardware and firmware additions that include built-in Bluetooth®, a windshield infrared detector, direct connection to a GPS module, GPRS or Wireless LAN modem, or a completely unique built-in vibration shock sensor that alerts the user whenever the instrument itself exposed to vibrations that can affect noise measurements.
Two USB connectors allow operation of a USB pen-drive and communication with a computer simultaneously.
Simultaneous use of these advanced features is possible because the instrument has two high-speed digital signal processors. For example, the SVAN 979 is capable of measuring 2 ms time history steps, recorded simultaneously to audio recording (with 48kHz sampling) and real-time frequency analysis. Only SVAN 979 is able to face such challenges. All data is stored on a microSD card of any capacity (default is 16GB).
It is also important to note that unlike other brands that recalculate the FFT spectrum into octave bands, the SVAN 979 performs frequency analysis in real-time, both in octaves, third octave to 1/12 octave. Setting up such advanced measurements can be very complicated, but not on the SVAN 979. The instrument’s intuitive menu structure has been designed to make the measurement experience enjoyable.
