Isokinetic Sampler Method 29
The determination of metal emissions from hazardous waste combustion by Method 29 involves a modification of the Method 5 suite. The sampling circuit is the same as the Method 5 particulate circuit with the addition of up to three impingers to increase the metal pickup of interest.
The impinger suite requires an SB-4 impinger container, glass nozzle and probe liner, and a non-metallic unit. This method has been validated for the collection of 17 different metals.
The standard glass filter is replaced with a low-background quartz filter. The impinger solutions are specific to the different metals. The obtained samples are processed and the corresponding fractions are analyzed by various means; inductively coupled argon plasma emission spectroscopy (ICPES), atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), or graphite furnace AAS, depending on the required sensitivity or matrix effects on the particular analyte.
